Modern slavery statement

September 2026

About this statement

Made for the World is a micro digital design studio. We’re below the turnover threshold that requires a Modern Slavery Statement under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, so this statement is voluntary. We publish it because transparency about how we operate is consistent with the values we advocate for through our work, and because the organisations we partner with – many of whom work directly on labour rights and supply chain justice – deserve to know our position.

What is modern slavery?

Modern slavery is an umbrella term for serious crimes including slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour, and human trafficking. It is a crime under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and one that disproportionately affects the world’s most vulnerable people. We are committed to playing our part in eradicating it.

About Made for the World

Made for the World Ltd is a UK-registered private limited company, co-founded and co-directed by Lucy Player and Chris Wolf. We have no employees. We work as a fully remote studio providing digital design, web development, and strategic communications services exclusively to mission-driven organisations – charities, NGOs, member networks, foundations, and social enterprises.

We are a certified B Corporation and a member of 1% for the Planet. These commitments hold us to independently verified social and environmental standards.

Our supply chain

Our supply chain is small and well-known to us. Suppliers fall into three categories:

  • Freelance collaborators: A small network of independent copywriters, developers, and animators, engaged directly, most based in the UK or EU
  • Software and digital tools: Subscription services for design, project management, and communication, primarily from US and European technology companies
  • Professional services: Accounting and business advisory services, primarily based in the UK

We have no manufacturing supply chain, no physical goods, and no offshore production. Our direct exposure to modern slavery risk is low by the nature of our work.

Risk assessment and due diligence

We assess ourselves as low risk for modern slavery given the nature of our operations and supply chain. Even so, we take the following steps:

  • Supplier induction surveys: All freelance collaborators complete a structured induction survey before engagement, covering the types of organisations they work with and screening explicitly for harmful or controversial sectors
  • Supplier log: We maintain a log of all active suppliers with documented human rights and environmental assessments, reviewed annually
  • Procurement principles: We prefer to work with B Corps and suppliers with verified ethical credentials where genuine alternatives exist. Where we engage collaborators outside the UK, we ensure they are paid at least the equivalent of the UK National Minimum Wage regardless of local minimums
  • Grievance mechanism: Any collaborator, supplier, or community member who has a concern about modern slavery or human rights in our operations can raise it through our publicly available Grievance Procedure.

We’re aware that modern slavery can occur in less visible ways – including in digital supply chains – and we maintain awareness of emerging risks in our sector through the B Corp community, the impact sector networks we participate in, and our work with clients whose missions directly address labour rights and supply chain justice.

Our commitment

Made for the World has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in any form. We commit to:

  • Never knowingly engaging with any supplier or collaborator involved in modern slavery or human trafficking
  • Raising concerns immediately if we become aware of or suspect modern slavery in our operations or supply chain
  • Reviewing and improving our approach annually
