Projects European Ocean Observing System

Bringing Europe’s ocean observing communities together

The European Ocean Observing System (EOOS) is critical in uniting European efforts to observe and monitor ocean health. By integrating ocean data from various sources, EOOS helps support marine policy, sustainable development, and environmental protection.

EOOS needed a website that reflected its complexity while making its vast data resources accessible to a diverse range of stakeholders. We were tasked with creating a scalable, user-friendly website that supported EOOS’s mission to protect ocean ecosystems and drive meaningful, long-term impact.

Communicating a unified mission

To position EOOS as a collaborative leader in ocean observation, we focused on the Mission pillar of our IX process. We led a strategic discovery phase, working with stakeholders to articulate a compelling narrative highlighting EOOS’s role in unifying European efforts.

The new website communicates this mission, with structured content conveying the organisation’s vision of integrated, accessible ocean data. By blending concise messaging with compelling visuals, we positioned EOOS as a cornerstone of ocean sustainability.

Showcasing strategy and impact

Given EOOS’s critical role in monitoring ocean health, we focused on the Proposition IX pillar to highlight the value and impact of their work. We designed an interactive platform that showcases EOOS’s data integration efforts, enabling users to explore data sources, research reports, and ocean health indicators. Through dynamic infographics, interactive tools, and multimedia content, the website clearly demonstrates how EOOS’s work drives environmental progress and supports European policy-making.

A platform for building capability

A central feature of the EOOS website is its comprehensive community resources section, designed to foster knowledge sharing and public engagement. Aligning with our Tools IX pillar, we developed a publicly accessible library that offers a wide range of resources, including news, events, publications, and communication tools. This resource hub allows stakeholders—researchers, policymakers, and the public—to stay informed and access valuable materials supporting their engagement with ocean health initiatives. The website empowers users to actively contribute to and stay connected with the EOOS mission by providing these tools in an organised and easily navigable format.

The new EOOS website now serves as a comprehensive, scalable resource that not only informs but also connects and empowers stakeholders to work together towards the health and sustainability of the world’s oceans.

The team at Made for the World helped us bring to life our vision of designing an engaging, attractive and informative website, taking us through a creative process that was smooth, professional and enjoyable.
